Richard Eurich RA OBE
Internees was painted during Richard Eurich’s time as an Official War Artist. He was first commissioned by the War Artists Advisory Committee in 1940, and went on to work as an Official War Artist to the Admiralty, Honorary Commission as Captain in the Royal Marines.
Richard Eurich was an important 20th century British artist. Born in Yorkshire, he studied at the Slade School of Art and had his first one man show at the Goupil Gallery in 1929. He went on to exhibit regularly at the Redfern Gallery, Fine Art Society, Arthur Tooth & Sons and then at the Royal Academy. He was awarded an OBE in 1984. There was a major retrospective exhibition organised by Bradford Art Galleries & Museums and toured to Southampton, London, Glasgow and in 1991 there was a major exhibition at the Imperial War Museum.
